A revision of Mnesithea (Gramineae – Rottboelliinae) in Malesia and Thailand Naturalis

A revision of Mnesithea (Gramineae – Rottboelliinae) in Malesia and Thailand showed that 11 species and 2 varieties occur. The suggestion that there would be a drought plant refuge in SE Borneo near Banjarmasin is supported.

Generic delimitation of Rottboellia and related genera (Gramineae) Naturalis

Generic delimitations within the Rottboelliastrae Stapf and Coelorachidastrae Clayton (formal name) are revised. Coelorachis Brongn., Hackelochloa O. Ktze, Heteropholis C.E. Hubb., Ratzeburgia Kunth, and Rottboellia formosa R. Br, are to be included in Mnesithea Kunth. Heteropholis cochinchinensis (Lour.) Clayton and its variety chenii (Hsu) Sosef & Koning are varieties of Mnesithea laevis (Retz.) Kunth. Robynsiochloa Jacq.-Félix is to be included in Rottboellia L. f. The necessary new combinations, a list of genera and representative species, and a key to the genera are given. In the Appendix a new species of Rottboellia, R. paradoxa Koning & Sosef, is described from the Philippines. The enigmatic species Rottboellia villosa Poir. is transferred...

Novitates Gabonenses 69. A new endemic species of and a new combination in Campylospermum (Ochnaceae) Naturalis

A new species of Campylospermum endemic to the Crystal Mountains, Gabon, and belonging to sect. Notocampylum is described. Besides that, a West-Central African species of Ouratea, nowadays a strictly South American genus, is transferred to Campylospermum and the necessary new combination made.

Novitates Rio Munis 2. A new species of Begonia section Loasibegonia (Begoniaceae) from the Monte Alen region, Equatorial Guinea Naturalis

A new, yellow-flowering species of Begonia, B. aequatoguineensis, is being described from the Monte Alen region in Equatorial Guinea. It belongs to the section Loasibegonia and supports the idea that the Monte Alen region harbours an exceptionally high biodiversity and possibly represents a former Pleistocene rain forest refuge.

Taxonomic novelties in African Dracaena (Dracaenaceae) Naturalis

In preparing the treatment of Dracaena for Flore du Gabon and Flore d’Afrique centrale, a relatively high number of taxonomic and nomenclatural novelties were discovered; these are presented here. Within Dracaena five species and one forma are described as new, D. bushii, D. haemanthoides, D. marina, D. wakaensis, D. waltersiae and D. laxissima forma aureilicia. Each new species is provided with a full description and taxonomic notes. Apart from that, five species are reinstated, D. braunii, D. nitens, D. perrottetii, D. tholloniana and D. usambarensis. A further 23 names are treated here as a synonym for the first time: D. bequaertii, D. buettneri, D. cuspidibracteata, D. densifolia, D. gabonica, D. gazensis, D. ledermannii, D. letestui, D. litoralis, D....

Taxonomic novelties in the genus Campylospermum (Ochnaceae) Naturalis

Four new species, one with two subspecies, of the genus Campylospermum are described, all endemic or sub-endemic to Gabon. These are C. auriculatum, C. gabonensis, C. gabonensis subsp. australis, C. glaucifolium and C. occidentalis. Distribution maps and scans of the holotypes are provided as well as preliminary IUCN Red List assessments. New combinations for nine species formerly assigned to the genus Ouratea and/or Gomphia are proposed: C. andongensis, C. glomeratum, C. longestipulatum, C. lunzuensis, C. lutambensis, C. nutans, C. plicatum and C. warneckei. Finally, one taxon is raised from the variety to species level, leading to the new combination C. costatum.

The Malesien species of Paspalum L. (Gramineae) Naturalis

Paspalum L. (Gramineae: Paniceae) has 14 species in Malesia, 5 of which are cultivated only. In the P. scrobiculatum-complex 5 varieties have been distinguished. One of these (from Africa) needed a new name: var. lanceolatum Koning & Sosef, another (from Southeast Asia) a new combination: var. horneri (Henr.) Koning & Sosef.

Trillesanthus, a validly published name to replace the African genus Marquesia (Dipterocarpaceae) Naturalis
Sosef, M.S.M..
The name Trillesanthus excelsus occurs on a set of drawings prepared by E. Delpy and shows the African Dipterocarpaceous species known as Marquesia excelsa, a near endemic of Gabon. It turns out to be an overlooked but effectively and validly published name. Therefore, the genus name Trillesanthus has priority over Marquesia. The necessary new combinations are made.
